“When we looked at our existing suppliers, side-by-side, Elite Group stood out as the provider who looked after our needs the best. Elite Group were always available to speak with when we contacted them, ready to offer advice, and we had access to a dedicated account manager who ensured our needs were always being met. It made sense that we would look to shift all communications to them.”

Frequently Asked Questions
How Scalable is SIP?
SIP Endpoints support connections ranging from two channels for small PBX-equipped businesses to an unlimited number of channels for large enterprises and contact centres. You can also add or remove additional lines at any time.
What are the benefits of SIP trunks over ISDN?
SIP trunking is less costly per channel and more flexible in how and where geographic telephone numbers can be used. It’s also quicker to install and provision and – as standard – it delivers extremely robust business continuity. ISDN is also being decommissioned and will be end of life in the UK, as part of the PSTN shutdown project by January 2027.
How popular is SIP trunking?
SIP trunking has moved from being a “trusted alternative” to the definitive standard for UK business communications. With the nationwide switch-off of the PSTN and ISDN networks now nearly complete, SIP trunks (alongside hosted VoIP) have become the primary migration path for hundreds of thousands of organisations across the country.
What is the call quality like?
From the moment we connect your SIP trunking service, you will enjoy all the reliability, resilience and quality that comes from working with the UK’s leading SIP carriers. We proactively monitor and manage Quality of Service across the entire network as it’s this that makes the real different to SIP trunk call quality.
Can SIP trunking protect your business in an emergency?
SIP trunks can handle emergencies easily. They are inherently disaster/recovery/business continuity ready, allowing you to re-route calls to an alternative location quickly and easily.
How do SIP solutions work if I want to move office?
Number flexibility with Business SIP trunks you can keep your existing number, even when moving out of the area. This saves you costs on printed company literature and stationery, while maintaining the perception that you still have a presence in the area you have moved from.
How does SIP Trunking relate to Microsoft Teams?
Microsoft Teams is the go-to tool for countless businesses seeking streamlined internal comms, but it needs a “bridge” to connect to actual phones, so you can call mobiles and landlines. Direct Routing is that bridge. It uses SIP Trunking to link your Teams app directly to the global telephone network, consolidating your communications while also saving you money compared to some of Microsoft’s own preset calling plans.
What do you need to make SIP Trunking work?
To make SIP Trunking work effectively, you need the most stable and reliable internet connectivity possible. While each active call only requires about 100 Kbps of bandwidth, that connection must be consistent and prioritised over other web traffic using Quality of Service (QoS) settings to prevent audio “jitter” or dropped calls. For the best results in 2026, a business-grade Leased Line or Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) is recommended – we can help with this. Speak with an Elite Group expert today.
Can we keep our existing business phone number when moving to SIP Trunks?
Absolutely – you can do this through number porting. This is the digital transfer of your existing business numbers from a legacy provider to your new IP-based platform. Once you provide a Letter of Authority (LOA), your new provider coordinates a “port date” with your current carrier (usually within 7 to 14 days). On that scheduled day, call routing shifts from the old copper network to your SIP connection with minimal downtime, ensuring your customers can still reach you on the same familiar numbers without any interruption to your operations.
When should we move to SIP Trunking?
Ideally, as soon as possible. When the PSTN switch-off arrives in January 2027, you’ll lose connection to your customers instantly if your phones are still reliant on the old lines. By moving to SIP Trunks sooner rather than later, you’re not only preparing for the inevitable, but you’re also beating the last-minute rush when countless businesses will be scrambling to onboard such services.
